HAUL TO THE EDGE
HAUL TO THE EDGE: The Misadventures of Dave Kowalski, Space Trucker
Dave Kowalski used to be a chartered accountant from Leeds. He had a pension. He had a colour-coded spreadsheet for the custody arrangement of his son. He had, by every measurable metric, done everything right.
He was also profoundly, bone-deep bored.
So he sold the flat, liquidated the pension, and bought a battered interplanetary hauler called The Rusty Comet. Now he's got a cargo of novelty garden gnomes, a journey from Earth to Pluto — the solar system's most inconvenient planet, colonised entirely by accident thanks to a clerical error — and GERTY-9, his AI co-pilot, who is right about everything and never lets him forget it.
Haul to the Edge is a gloriously funny sci-fi romp for fans of Douglas Adams, Red Dwarf, and anyone who has ever fantasised about quitting their job and driving off into the infinite dark. Set in a 23rd century where humanity has scattered across the solar system mostly due to poor planning, bureaucratic incompetence, and an impressive capacity for optimism in the face of overwhelming evidence, it's a story about freedom, the open road, and the particular joy of finding your thing — even if your thing involves hauling questionable cargo to a frozen dwarf planet that the rest of the solar system regards with fond condescension.
Buckle up. It's a long way to Pluto.
